Chipbreaker Guide

How to Select a Chipbreaker

The chipbreaker influences chip formation, cutting forces, edge strength, surface quality and machining stability.

Recommended Selection Sequence

1. Confirm the machining operation.
2. Confirm the workpiece material and hardness.
3. Determine the required depth of cut and feed range.
4. Evaluate machine and workpiece stability.
5. Select the grade and chipbreaker as one complete combination.

Application Typical Requirement Operation / Condition Selection Direction Information Required
Finishing Good surface and low cutting force Stable / continuous Sharp edge, low feed and small depth of cut Material, finish target, allowance
Medium Machining Balanced chip control and edge strength General conditions General-purpose chipbreaker Material, feed, depth of cut
Roughing Strong edge and high material removal Interrupted or unstable Reinforced edge and larger chip space Allowance, interruption, machine power
Grooving & Parting Chip evacuation and width control External, internal or face operation Select by groove width, depth and holder Groove width/depth, holder model
Threading Correct profile and stable chip formation Internal or external thread Select by profile, pitch and infeed method Thread type, pitch, direction, holder

JetEdge Chipbreaker Naming

JetEdge chipbreaker codes are the official product designations used in product pages, quotations, packaging and order documents.

Common market reference terms may be included in product descriptions or search keywords only to help customers identify the requested application. These terms do not indicate affiliation with another brand and do not guarantee identical geometry or performance.

For example:

• MGM is the official JetEdge chipbreaker code; “M2-type” may be used only as a secondary industry reference term.
• MRA is the official JetEdge chipbreaker code; “DL-type” may be used only as a secondary industry reference term.

Final geometry and application suitability must be confirmed according to the actual insert drawing, dimensions and cutting conditions.
